For enthusiasts wanting to make clean pure neutral spirit.

This flow management (FM) design of reflux still has been designed to create high percentage pure neutral spirit.

The FM technology used in this design makes this process robust and easy to use. No need to worry about water pressures and fine tuning of water flow speeds. The FM design gives you direct control of the reflux ratio and therefore the purity of your end product. It’s never been so easy to enjoy the craft of distillation.

Do you want to distill faster or get higher purity spirit?  Then you should try this stainless extension tube.
This stainless steel extension tube can be filled with copper or stainless packing.  By increasing the volume of the reflux still column this will enable you to get higher purity and/or collect spirit faster (it's basically a trade off between the two).

The whole system is designed to save, time, money and parts, and fit in one box for easier storage and cheaper shipping.

This still is easy to use and has solid reliability.  Even though many other more complicated designs exist this particular still design continues to be the preferred pick for easy of use and reliability. It's the perfect reflux still for DIY spirit makers who want something that is simple and fun to use.

Note:
You will need to purchase a distillation lid if you are using this still on a DigiBoil or BrewZilla. Take note of what size your unit is to purchase the correct sized still. We have two types, the standard distillation lid, or the Pro Series with Sight Glass.
35L Standard Distillation Lid (47mm) for BrewZilla and DigiBoil
65L Standard Distillation Lid (47mm) for BrewZilla and DigiBoil

Pro 35L Tri-Clover Distillation Lid (2" TC) for BrewZilla and DigiBoil
You will also need 1 x 2 Inch Tri-Clover Clamp.

Pro 65L Tri-Clover Distillation Lid (4" TC) for BrewZilla and DigiBoil
You will also need:
1 x 2 Inch Tri-Clover Clamp
1 x 4 Inch Tri-Clover Clamp
1 x 4" x 2" Tri-Clover Concentric Reducer
1 x 4 Inch Tri-Clover Beaded Seal

No more stuffing around with water flow speed!

Some stills are hard to operate and require fine tuning of the water flow in the condenser.  These stills include the t500 and other coolant management or (CM) designs.  This means that you have to constantly adjust the flow of water/coolant to get consistent results.  This can be also an issue if you are using a pressure pump that cycles on and off in your house or it can even be an issue if you flush the toilet and momentarily the pressure in your hose feeding the still drops.  This still on the other hand is a FM design that controls the flow of spirit directly.  So the as long as you have enough coolant it doesn't matter how fast your coolant flows through the still.  This makes the still far easier to operate than many other brands like the t500.  The purity of the spirit can be controlled by two included flow control inserts that are show in the attached photos.  These brass inserts come with a 1.0mm hole and a 0.6mm hole.  As the hole gets smaller the speed at which the spirit comes out of the still will decrease and this will in turn increase your reflux ratio and therefore give you higher purity.  This makes this still design extremely easy to use as you just open up the ball valve and let the flow control insert of your choice do the job.

Typically the 1.0mm insert is good for stripping runs and then on the final cut you can use the 0.6mm insert.  Alternatively, you can use the ball valve to control the spirit flow too but this is a sensitive adjustment and required a bit more skill for this type of manual adjustment so we recommend you just use the brass inserts that come included.

Easiest Still to Use - That's our guarantee
This bulletproof design is so easy to use that we are giving you a guarantee that you will get great spirit in no time flat.  All you need to do is make sure you have adequate water/coolant flowing through the head and just about everything else will look after itself.

Compatible with Many Boilers
This still design is compatible with many boiler types.  One option is just get a pot and drill a 47mm hole in the lid and this still will fit no worries.  The still also fits many standard boilers such as the standard Turbo Boilers, Robobrew, Grainfather etc. This still can also fit the top of stainless steel kegs too.  So you can easily make your own keg boiler.  You can use a 2inch tri-clover clamp (not included) and then use the clamp to attach this still to the top of a 50L keg.  So you will not find a more compatible still design that fits a wide range of boiler types.  This can do it all.

Solid Copper
Unlike stainless steel stills and stills that are only copper plated, this still is made from solid copper.  When your hot spirit comes in contact with copper the copper acts like a catalytic converter and drives sulfur out of the spirit.  This process means you get less "off-flavours" and you simply get better quality spirit.  Copper is an expensive metal now and it definitely increases the cost of the still manufacture but we can say for sure that there is a very good reason why it's still the preferred material by many serious distillers simply because the results are superior.  Dont listen to other people tell you that stainless is the best.  There is no substitute for copper and a still like this will last you a lifetime.

Simple Assembly and Setup
This still is mostly assembled but you still have to connect your garden hose and coolant supply. You can just use your garden hose but it's a bit of a waste of tap water so we recommend that you get a tank at least 500liters in size then use a powerful recirculation pump to drive the still.  We would recommend one of the Ozito pumps that you can get from Bunnings or any other suitable high-pressure pumps you can purchase this separately yourself.  We wouldn't recommend a pump too small as you need a reasonably powerful pump to push the water through the condenser as there is a lot of flow restriction in the condenser head. Flow rate is not as important as a high head pressure/maximum pressure capability. When you get the still you just need some teflon tape and just attach the fittings as show in the photos above in this add.  Please make sure you connect all the fittings and check for leaks before you start distilling.  There is nothing worse that trying to attach a fitting once the still has heated up.

Distillation is a long process and if you want to automate the process you can use one of the KegLand Temp controllers:

MKII 10amp Temperature Controller
RAPT Temperature Controller

You can use this temp controller to automate the distillation process and this is a massive time saver.  More on how to do this in this video below.

Do you want to distill even more pure spirit even faster?  Or do you want to carbon filter your spirit? If you answer yes to either of these questions you might want to consider this stainless extension tube that we sell separately. This extension tube is explained in this video below.

Swap over

"As I already had one on my Digiboil it was just a straight swap and now I am getting the amount of alcohol that I have been getting previously"

Cheap Chinese copy of Pure Distilling

"I have run three cycles through this column. Result. 0. 6 regulator blocked with rust. One run with 1. 0mm regulator. Blocked with rust. Don’t waste your time, money or ingredients with this rubbish. Buy Australian. Pure Distilling. That’s who they copied the design from. I’m about to bin 130 L litres of wash because of this rubbish. Then I have to reprocess 20l of pure spirit because of rust contamination. I feel cheated. I have photos if anyone is interested. Wasted 100kg of dex not to mention the turbo8 packs. Bordering on a scam. And the poor casting of 2” triclover? A bad joke. I’m not laughing"

Good with some suggested improvements

"A solid 4 stars. I did a run yesterday with this for the first time using this type of column. First thing to note is that it is very influenced by the ambient temperature and wind. . . . . I had the garage door open to keep the space cool but the periodic very light breeze would cause some wild temperature fluxes. second thing is the supplied Temperature probe automatically turns off every 5 minutes, which is annoying and I will find a branded version. . Thirdly i used the 0. 6mm orifice provided. on a 30 liter wash @ 17% ABV it took from 7:45 (morning) to 16:30 afternoon, to fully complete the run. . . The positive is the run was consistently between 89 & 92% ABV. If you buy one I would suggest getting a better temp probe that will stay "ON" and remove the stainless steel packing and then repack the column with the copper version sold on the Kegland site (you will need 6)."

A little dissapointed

"there is actually nothing wrong with the Reflux column, but I had problems fitting it to my Robobrew boiler because the tri clover clamp would not fit round the two Ferrules, the seal I was supplied with fitted the groove on the column but the not the lid as there was no groove in the ferrule. I spoke to a Kegland rep who asked for photos which I sent but never heard back from anyone. after a few days I gave up and fixed it myself. I expected more support from the Kegland staff"

Great entry level still. Half

"Great entry level still. Half the price and double the quality of what I can get from my local home brew shop. Kegland is an amazing resource but I wish I lived closer because the high postage price makes it regular brewing consumables unaffordable."

Michael C. (4/5)

Satisfied

"The service from Kegland was very prompt and the condenser does a good job. I was concerned on the first run when the product came out hot even though my water flow was pretty fast but I was assured this is normal. I am very happy with what it produces."

Q&A

Does the alcoengine 2 have saddles or wool inside the collumm ,, how much water say if i simply feed it from a house tap does it need to run through it to achieve the high quality 93% alcohol through the .6 restrictor, i didn't want to have to purchase a tank an a pump one use more power running the pump an the purchase cost of the pump as well as another extra cost to purchase a tank , I live in rockhampton where it is usually stinking hot most of the time an in the warmer months its not unusual for water coming out of the tap to be 24 or even 25 deg i don't think a. 500 litre tank woukd cut it up here . You say its not the volume but more pressure our mains tap water has plenty of good pressure it woukdnt be hard for me to turn on the tap a bit at a time an take timed measurements to know when im getting say for example 2litres a minute or what ever is the minimum amount of feed in water required to achieve the best outcome ( high % alcohol ie 93% ) also with the extensions to all to the column is there even more advantage if you go to a 500 mm long extension or 2×250 mm extensions instead of only 1 x 250 mm an finally when replacing the either wool or saddles inside do I or can I replace the stainless steel what ever you use and the copper what ever is used up t he top of the collumm or just the s/s stuff of an how do I clean the inside of the collumn I take it the top cap can not be removed an same as the cooling coil inside the collumn or can they both be removed for cleaning . Ps sorry about so many question but I think I should at least find out these things first before I decide whether to buy one or not .
Great questions! Please have a read through the online user manual as this has all your answers and more: https://docs.kegland.com.au/products/distilling-equipment/alcoengine-reflux-still-or-user-guide
I recently purchased this product to equip my Brewmonk brewery. Before using it, do I need to remove the metal straw inside? Does the tower allow for double distillation in one pass?
Not 100% sure what straw you mean, sorry. One pass = one run, so not really
Will this column fit on the lid of my t500 boiler?
This has a 2" Tri Clover flange and is threaded with a nut and seal for a lid with a 47mm hole.
